The site is built on more than 20 years of electrical study and hands-on field experience—and on one simple idea:

Real experience becomes more valuable when it is shared.

I first began studying electricity when I entered electrical engineering at the age of twenty. Since then, I have spent more than two decades studying electricity and working with electrical systems in the field.

Over time, I reached a point where I felt that some of the knowledge and experience I had accumulated could be useful to other people.

That is why I started Electric Korea.

What Electric Korea Is About
This is not intended to be another site that simply repeats electrical theory. Electric Korea records what actually happens in the field—what was found, what was measured, what decisions were made, what worked, what did not, and what was learned from the job.

More Than 20 Years of Electrical Study and Field Experience

My electrical journey began with formal study.

Electrical engineering gave me the foundation to understand voltage, current, resistance, circuits, grounding, protection, and many of the principles behind electrical systems.

That theoretical foundation has remained important throughout my working life. When you understand the basic concepts behind electricity, you can approach electrical work with a better understanding of what is happening inside a circuit—and why a particular condition may be dangerous.

But after entering real construction sites, I learned something else:

The field does not always look like the diagrams in a textbook.

Electric Korea is built around real electrical work, field measurements, troubleshooting, and practical experience.

Theory Gives You the Foundation. The Field Teaches You the Rest.

Schools and textbooks can teach excellent electrical theory.

Real construction sites add another layer of knowledge.

In an older building, you may open a ceiling or distribution panel and find wiring that has been modified repeatedly over many years.

Conductors may be the same color and tangled together. Circuit labels may be missing or incorrect. The original installer may be long gone, and the existing wiring may not match what you expected to find.

Construction work itself does not always proceed according to the original plan either. Other trades, existing structures, old wiring, limited access, and unexpected site conditions can all change how a job must be approached.

In those situations, electrical theory is still essential—but it is only the starting point.

You have to observe the site, trace circuits, take measurements, understand what previous workers may have done, and sometimes reconsider your first judgment.

From Theory to Field Judgment
Formal electrical knowledge helps a technician understand electricity and work more safely. But many practical skills—reading an old installation, tracing unidentified circuits, dealing with unexpected conditions, and making field decisions—can only be developed through repeated hands-on experience.

Real Field Cases, Measurements, and Decisions

Electric Korea focuses on the process behind electrical work, not only the finished result.

When documenting a project or troubleshooting case, I want to answer practical questions:

  • What problem brought me to the site?
  • What condition did I find?
  • What did I measure?
  • What tools and methods were actually used?
  • What was unexpected?
  • Why was one solution chosen instead of another?
  • What happened after the work was completed?

Those details are what turn a finished electrical installation into a useful field record.

A Simple Example: Measuring Before Making a Decision

In one restaurant troubleshooting case, a 50 A main circuit breaker began tripping repeatedly after a new single-phase kitchen air conditioner was installed.

It would have been easy to look only at the breaker and consider increasing its rating. Instead, I measured the phase currents first.

During the initial load test, one phase exceeded 65 A. A later recorded measurement showed:

L1: 53 A   /   L2: 30 A   /   L3: 38 A

The newly installed single-phase air conditioner was drawing approximately 13 A and was connected to the heavily loaded L1 phase.

After that branch circuit was moved from L1 to L2, later field measurements were approximately:

L1: 39 A   /   L2: 35 A   /   L3: 35 A

The purpose of documenting a case like this is not simply to show that a wire was moved from one phase to another. The useful part is the diagnostic process:

Reproduce the problem. Measure the actual condition. Identify the cause. Make the correction. Then measure again.

We Document What Worked—and What Didn't

Electric Korea will not document only successful work.

Experience reduces mistakes, but it does not make anyone immune to them.

Even an experienced technician can misunderstand a situation, overlook an important detail, make an incorrect assumption, or later discover that there was a better way to approach the job.

When a judgment turns out to be wrong, the important questions are:

Why did it happen? How was it discovered? What should be done differently next time?

I want to document those experiences too.

The purpose is not to normalize mistakes or unsafe work. It is to examine what happened, correct the problem, and preserve the lesson so that another technician may recognize a similar situation earlier.

Why Document Mistakes?
If an experienced technician can make a wrong judgment, someone else can too. A transparent record of how an error was recognized and corrected can sometimes teach more than a project that appears perfect from beginning to end.

The Language of Korean Construction Sites

Electrical construction sites also have their own language.

In South Korea, electricians and construction workers regularly use job-site terms that may never appear in an electrical engineering textbook.

Some are shortened expressions. Some came from older trade terminology. Others are borrowed words that have changed pronunciation or meaning after decades of use on Korean construction sites.

Knowing the formal technical term is important, but understanding the words people actually use at work can also matter when entering the field.

Electrical Safety Is Part of the Process

Safe electrical work is not separate from technical knowledge.

It begins with understanding the circuit, identifying the source, checking the actual electrical condition, selecting appropriate equipment, and recognizing when there is not enough information to proceed safely.

An old building with unidentified wiring requires a different approach from a new installation with accurate drawings and clearly identified circuits.

Electric Korea will therefore continue to document not only how electrical work is performed, but also the observations, measurements, and decisions that influence how the work is approached.

The Long-Term Goal: A Practical Electrical Field Archive

My long-term hope is for Electric Korea to become a site that electricians around the world can use as a practical reference.

Electrical standards, voltages, wiring methods, terminology, and construction practices vary between countries. When those differences matter, they should be clearly identified rather than ignored.

But electricians around the world also encounter many of the same practical questions.

Why is this breaker tripping? Where does this unidentified circuit go? Why is this connection overheating? Why did the insulation resistance fall? What did the previous installer do here? Why does the drawing not match the actual building?

These are not questions that belong to only one country.

They are field problems—and field problems are where accumulated experience becomes valuable.

Knowledge and Confidence

I have spent more than 20 years studying electricity and working around electrical systems, but there is still much more to learn.

Electricity is too broad a field for one person to know everything.

Electric Korea is therefore not intended to be a record of someone who always has the right answer.

It is a record of studying, working, measuring, troubleshooting, making decisions, occasionally reconsidering those decisions, and continuing to learn.

One project at a time.
One measurement at a time.
One lesson at a time.

Someday, when I am no longer working in the field, I hope Electric Korea will still be here.

If these records can give someone a little more knowledge before starting a job, and a little more confidence when facing an unfamiliar electrical problem, then documenting these experiences will have been worthwhile.
